According to an article in this quarter's Intelligent Life, lots of university students are apparently starting to use Modafinil (a drug originally developed to combat narcolepsy) as a way of boosting their ability to focus and concentrate. Although Monafidil is prescription-only in the UK and USA it seems to be easily available over the internet and in other markets around the world.
Although this is by no means the first time that stimulants have been used in this way, it may point to an interesting trend. the move beyond curative and recreational drugs, into the innovative use of designer drugs to enhance and fine-tune mental performance.
