You know how sometimes the same idea comes up half a dozen times in diferent contexts … and eventually gets you thinking.
We are doing a think-piece on the future of work and what the office of 2020 – 2025 will be like. One of my colleagues made the point that if you multiply the number of minutes wasted waiting for your Windows PC to boot up, by the number of people in the population …. well, you get the picture.
Then along comes an article in Business Week setting out the vision of an "instant-on" PC (running Google Chrome) and you suddenly realise that for all the good stuff they have undoubtedly brought us over the last two decades … the achilles heel of the whole Microsoft Corporation is the time it takes Windows to boot up.
Never mind 2020 or 2025, we are no longer willing to go make a cup of coffee whilst our PC gets its act together in the morning!
