Over the years it lost a little of its looks, but none of its class. The iconic appeal of the VW camper van has just got stronger and stronger over the last 63 years.
It’s association with hippies, surfers and laid-back travelling freedom couldn’t be created artificially. It kind of grew up organically to the point where it has become an object of desire for aspiring surfers everywhere – regardless of how old or young they are.
Sadly production of the Microbus is about to end in Brazil. Killed by red tape and safety legislation.
However the brilliant news is that VW have plans to introduce an all new microbus in 2014 based on a design concept first penned in 2001! What a great way to build on an icon – and add a bit of cool to a mainstream brand through clever design.
I just hope they don’t forget to build a proper camper van!
